Meme assignment

In Islam religion there is 5 times in a day required prayers in a specific time. So, in my photo the man praying in the outside and police protecting him. I decided to choose this topic because nowadays in the world a big issue of religion discrimination. Civil liberties of USA are protecting each religion and allows us to practice our religions. The First Amendment is perhaps the most famous provision of the Bill of Rights. It is arguably also the most extensive because it guarantees both religious freedoms and the right to express your views in public. Specifically, the First Amendment says: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances” (Krutz & Sylvie Waskiewicz).

The image represents a significant moment in a continuing struggle for civil liberties, that man who praying shows how liberties may be exercised while still protected by law. This picture shows the significance of defending each people regardless their color, belief or origin. The police, in this context is more than just a police officer, he is a symbol of hope, guaranteeing that people can freely practice their religion without scarying of discrimination or punishment.

Well known leader of civil right movement Martin Luther King once said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. The battle for equality is a global issue that affects every person. His quote clearly shows us that it is not the problem of certain community. By showing police protecting a guy while he prays, my meme perfectly captures the main point of Dr. King’s remarks.

My meme serves as a helpful reminder that protecting civil rights is a shared duty requiring cooperation between ordinary people, law enforcement, and those making the decisions.  Societies can work towards a future in which civil rights are not only safeguarded but also valued, providing a just and inclusive society for everyone, by appreciating historical context and supporting the values of equality.

I think I deserve 10-13 points. Because my essay is well written. In my opinion the concept is vivid. I was also so passionate about Islamophobic actions around the world. So here I got a small opportunity to speak up and show my worldview. Why not 15? Because I’m not sure about my photo.  When someone says meme something funny comes to my mind, but my photo is not funny.

Ylyas, this is great work! I have to disagree with your self-grading assessment, though- your essay is excellent and thoroughly explains a topic related to our class, using in-text citations- that’s fantastic! This is not a comedy class, so I’ve put 15 points in (if you prefer me to change it to your original self-grading amount, just let me know and I will)
