This weak we learned about federalism. Basically federalism refers to division of powers and responsibilities into federal government and state government. Federalism is defined by the US Constitution, which describes specific powers granted to the federal government, powers reserved for the states, and powers that are shared. 10th amendment to the Constitution states that any powers not delegated to the federal government nor prohibited to the states are reserved for the states or the people.

In the late 1700 and early 1800 in the US was a constant conflicts because of the balance of power between states and the national government. Key events such as McCulloch v. Maryland, Gibbons v. Ogden and the judge decisions shaped these struggles.

Overall, this period marked the national government’s efforts to establish its role within the federal design, with the Supreme Court often resolving power struggles between states and the national government.
